Our Values

Our Purpose

The Lebanese Foundation for e-Democracy aims to create, build and manage a digital platform that allows citizens to directly propose and decide on political initiatives. This is what we call: electronic democracy.

This institution will encourage and promote the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the political process and governance.

It is a non-partisan, open and inclusive platform through which all Lebanese citizens are invited to participate on an equal footing in proposing, developing and creating laws while preserving the constitution as a compass.

The e-Democracy Foundation aims to develop a healthy society that provides equal opportunities for all. A society that believes in the individual’s endeavor, effort, intellectual achievement and economic return, a society that proceeds and works according to everything that is beneficial to the community and the public interest.

Testimonials

We slipped into a crisis blindfolded and ended up in a social, economic and political deadlock, with no emergency exits, no strategic vision and no recovery plan. Neither can we give up nor can we remain unresponsive, but we need to redirect our efforts towards practical and impactful actions. Change is imminent and as citizens of this country, within and beyond its borders, we are the change-makers. To rise from this crisis, we need to innovate, to create solutions, to design action plans and to tap into the collective power of individuals and communities. This platform seeks to amplify our voices and channel them, to shift the paradigms of decision making by leveraging the power of technology. And perhaps that together, we will be able to rewrite our collective Future.

The reach of the Lebanese has always transcended the boundaries of Lebanon.  Their aspiration is bigger than what the current Lebanese institutions and politicians can deliver, and the political and ideological options available are obsolete to build a sustainable future; hence, the only way forward is an E solution. The E solution can assemble the Lebanese across all five continents, into a single yet richly diverse community, united around a simple goal: the cultural and economic sustainability of Lebanon, and simple principles: the believe in a civil, democratic, and progressive society weaved together through the rule of law and the spirit of ethical behavior, where all citizens regardless of gender, ethnic, religious, or personal choices, are equal in rights and obligations.

The E solution is also a conduit for powerful, validated, and constructive ideas to all its members consecutively.  It takes the tension of opposing ideas, whether right or left, to forge an effective solution to a small problem or a new social contract. The E solution provides a venue where ideas and issues are debated in an orderly and conclusive manner, leading to solid long-term solutions.

In short, the E-Democracy, is an assembler of diverse and scattered Lebanese, a conduit for ideas, a venue for constructive and peaceful debate, a platform for making decisions and resolving differences peacefully through a voting mechanism. As such, intended to take Lebanon forward as a prosperous and enlightened nation, where diversity lives in harmony through a progressive social contract.

At the age of Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp , it is becoming more and more difficult to practice real democracy. Fake news rule public opinion. Each individual is an egocentric, self-proclaimed leader . Each group marks its territory and writes its own constitution. We, citizens of democracy are not realizing that the world has changed. We struggle with models and attitudes of the past, unable to harness our uncertain future. We need to re-invent ourselves. Wikipedia shows us a way. An open platform without leader, without doctrine, that accumulates the knowledge of the world. This e-democracy open platform called the 3 rd republic of Lebanon can well be it. Bringing the opinion of all Lebanese to a dogma-free open forum capable of creating a deep, young, participative consensus around the future of our nation. A platform that can become Lebanon’s salvation roadmap and a model of e-democracy for the world. Let’s retain those key words: Collaboration, team work, participation and build together the new e-democracy of Lebanon. The one that will change our destiny . Yes, I strongly believe in this open platform

When brainstorming about the urgent need to establish the foundation of a new republic, two criteria came up as essential guidelines: - The need to get as many feedback as possible about all issues that affect the wellbeing of the citizens such as education, healthcare, ecology, rule of law… - The importance to reach out to all Lebanese, particularly those who are living abroad.

Like the phoenix, Lebanon will always need two wings to fly high: the residents and those who are abroad..! This is why the E-Lebanon could only be developed through an e-platform..!

Lebanon today faces an unprecedented existential threat that is inextricably linked to the disempowerment of its people. We must ask ourselves: how do we move forward to heal our nation’s broken bones? As a platform, The E-Lebanon of Lebanon has the power to alter the course of Lebanese history through one simple premise: restoring the voice of each citizen. For the health of our democracy to thrive, Lebanese citizens must be impartially informed and their voices heard. Every voice counts to stop a few from determining the fate of many. The opportunity to vote freely without coercion nor influence is the key to creating a society every Lebanese citizen wants to live in. E-democracy will allow us to choose ideas, projects, and leaders that have a positive impact on our communities. We deserve protection of our right to shape our economic, legal, environmental and cultural lives, and the E-Lebanon platform will do exactly that. The majority of Lebanese citizens have phones. By this mere fact, our voting rights and better futures lie within our pockets.

Why having an e-platform promoting e-democracy is essential for Lebanon today.

The government and more generally the public sector in Lebanon clearly showed their inaptitude to rule the country.  Corruption, bad policies, cronyism, etc. are among the reasons that brought down to the street on October 17, 2020, two million persons soliciting a change, namely, good governance, rule of law, independent judiciary system, democracy...

Promoting e-democracy is not only essential for Lebanon today, but it is crucial for the revival if still possible of Lebanon. Furthermore, it is essential for the political system of the country to be reconceived  on solid grounds by the civil society. The role of the public sector should be geared toward providing services instead of harassing citizens.

Marie Joe Kassab

I fully support this initiative, which could be one of the pillars of a better Lebanon, if the current revolution succeeds.

Please take into consideration the enormous work that has to precede such initiative, specially reforms, change of the present political leaders, change of the current parliament & ministers, and a fresh discussion among younger people regarding what type of Lebanon they want. You have to keep into consideration the still prevailing  multi confessional forces that are deeply entrenched in a larger part of the population.

Lebanon today after 77 years of a failed independence After 45 years of a civil war and aftermath After 30 years since the official end of the civil war After a continuous degradation of our country, its environment its beauty and its institutions, Having reached an unparalleled level of corruption, and kidnapping of the system by a few warlords who have led the country to a total economical disaster, and impoverished its people

The Lebanese is angry The silent majority is angry The people want change

But they are disorganized facing this multi-headed monster

The people want; A change of leaders A change of the system Accountability True democracy Good governance

That is why, a small bunch of patriots have decided to create a digital platform, a hub, a social network … That will be dedicated to all the people who want CHANGE.

In order to give them a tool to organize themselves, a tool to unite, a tool to fight the existing rotten system, a forum to discuss the issues and vote, a tool to prepare the next elections, a unified path to win.

The e platform enables the Lebanese  to contribute their vision, talent, special and diverse expertise and information towards establishing the 3rd republic by providing ideas, information, research and substance and actionable steps towards creating better governance of a democratic, free, secular and independent Lebanon;, to identify and implement much needed reforms in the various fields ranging from the financial , economic, health care, water resources, energy and others.

In doing so, the Lebanese take ownership in drafting their own future. It is a very effective tool to harness the vast potential of the Lebanese worldwide towards building the future of Lebanon.
